Almost 30 years ago I started being concerned about the ingredients in deodorants and anti-perspirants. At the time it was difficult to find anti-perspirants without aluminum. It wasn’t just that I was hearing talk about aluminum and Alzheimer’s, but also aluminum and breast cancer. Apparently the area where these products are applied is where most breast cancer starts. Makes you think, doesn’t it?
I’m not saying it does or doesn’t cause cancer or Alzheimer’s, but you can read more here:
All I know is that I was having some kind of reaction to anti-perspirants I was using and it was causing severe itching. It’s not very lady-like to constantly be scratching at your underarms, and it starts to hurt if you do it long enough. I did some research and discovered the deodorant crystal.
I searched and found a crystal rock similar to this one. All you have to do is hold it under running water so that just one side of it gets wet, and then rub it under your arms.
Pretty easy, huh?
I kept thinking that eventually this stone would wear down, but 20 years later it was still the same size. The only thing that destroyed it was my knocking it off of the counter and watching it shatter into a thousand pieces.
By then, the crystals weren’t a new thing and it was easier to get them. I’ve bought several different brands and they’re all basically the same.
The secret is in the salt. Salt kills bacteria. That’s what keeps you from developing an odor.
This salt does NOT work as an anti-perspirant, and quite frankly, it’s the anti-perspirants that are the culprits in causing the itching that so many people find annoying. The great thing about the crystal is that it really DOES stop body odor, and even if you do have some sweating, it won’t be stinky!
Just think about what an “anti-perspirant” does to your body. Any time you’re trying to stop it from doing what it needs to do naturally, like release toxins from your body, you’re fighting against nature. In the words of Bob Newhart, “Stop it!”

As I was using my crystal this morning, it occurred to me that this might be some good information to share with other preppers. Maybe you have your shelves stocked with deodorants and anti-perspirants. I don’t know if they have expiration dates or not, but I do seem to recall that they will dry up and shrink if they’re not used by a certain time. How awesome would it be to just buy one crystal, or even two if you want a backup because you might be clumsy like me, and spend about $10? You’d be covered for the rest of your life.
About a month ago I was looking in the stores for a crystal for my sister-in-law. She was complaining about how all of her camisoles were stained under the arms. I told her it was the deodorant or anti-perspirant she was using. Ever since I switched to the crystal, I have not seen that ugly yellow stain on my clothes! She was really anxious to get one and try it out, but we had a hard time finding one.
If you’re interested in trying one for yourself, save the gas money and order one from Amazon. Yes, I am an Amazon affiliate and I might make a nickel or two if you order through this link, but think of the gas money you’ll save!
I have to laugh as I look at the link. Please order a new one, even though they “say” they can sell you a used one for about half the price. Ew!
