I have been adding to my food storage recently, and in putting cans away this week, I noticed some black sticky goo under a couple of stored cans. As I pulled them off the shelf, I found that at least two cans of fruit cocktail and/or peaches, had leaked. When I picked up the guilty can, I was surprised at how light it was. When I shook it, I could hear that the contents were completely dried up.
I guess I need to make peach cobbler more often!
I also discovered that I had some chicken stock in the paper containers that was about to expire. I moved them to the refrigerator so I’d remember to use them.
It’s a good idea to put something on your calendar to remind you to review your storage so you’re not wasting what you have.
